LEYENDEKKER THANKLESS

In the same vein as TMR favourites, Tottenham indie-rockers HAUS, we have a new recommendation for those of you with a penchant for rock-fuelled bands in the form of South East London outfit Leyendekker. On their debut single ‘Thankless’, the four-piece embody the mighty feel of Foals’ What Went Down LP. The bass is the kind that shakes you to your core, the guitars stutter in half-melody, the synths add a level of dexterity, lifting the track from its rocky dirge, while the percussion is also impressively varied, whether a sample pad beat or dance-rhythm drums. Collectively the musicianship of Aviram Barath, Joss Brightwell and Jonny Coote creates a sense of driving hunger led by lead vocalist Calum Duncan’s dulcet tones, which all together portray “the cost, both financial and otherwise, of living in a city like London and the realisation that a vast majority of people have no choice but to abandon their ambitions and passions in order to survive.” In conclusion, Leyendekker’s debut ‘Thankless’ is devastating, highly-accomplished and, most of all, in touch with reality. - HT
